Will an unlocked iPhone work with Solavei?

image

We’re back for another great round of stupid tech advice in the Solavei forums… This week we find someone asking if their iPhone 5c/5s will work on the AWS 1700 and 2100 bands for 4G T-Mobile coverage. The response is gorgeous – and completely false!

“That is correct, Apple included the 1700/2100 T-Mobile bands in all its phones starting with the 5C and 5S. So an unlocked AT&T 5C and 5S will work just like a T-Mobile version, and a Verizon 5C and 5S are already sold unlocked to GSM. Sprint is the only carrier that is till not unlocking domestic GSM on their devices right now.”

This answer clearly states that Apple began including the 1700/2100 bands with all iPhone products as of the 5c and 5s lines. Now that may be true for some models, but what isn’t brought up by the answer is, what version of the 5s is being used. The question doesn’t state it, but the answer says all, so it must be included right?

Wrong! Both the A1457 and the A1530 models fail to have the 1700/2100 AWS bands installed on them. It is also worth noting that the 5s does feature the 1700 AWS band, but it has the world wide 2100 IMT band, not the 2100 AWS band that T-Mobile uses here. Loosely put, the iPhone 5s and 5c will run great in areas where T-Mobile has refarmed the 1900MHz bands, but not where they have not. Good try tech guys, but strike one!

What does that Triangle Mean?

image

So this poor user is having signal problems and has a triangle where her usual signal indicator is. She jumps into the forums for some help and gets this reply.

“Sometimes a phone can lose a connection to the towers in your area, or you are in an area that does not have coverage at all. The first thing I would do is completely reboot the phone, and if it has a removable battery, pull that out for a minute or so and then place it back in and power up the device. This should reconnect the device to the network.”

What? Dude… She’s ROAMING! A little triangle in the corner has meant the device is roaming for the last 15 years! Sure a battery pull might help find the nearest native tower, but why not just tell her she is in an area that has crappy coverage or that her device doesn’t have the proper radios for establishing a strong connection. Thanks for the college try though!

So, you want to commit fraud, right?

So, you take a job where they prohibit you from doing activities like MLM companies because it isn’t professional… You don’t like the company policy, so you ask if you can transfer your MLM income source to your spouse so you don’t get caught doing it? Dude, you are missing the point of the rules here, right? Wait, you mean Solavei has a way to get him off the hook…

“Love the name by the way. Typically a transferring of social membership would fall under these categories Death of a Social Member, Incapacitation of a Social Member, Divorce, Extreme Hardship. You can review this document and still send the request to Solavei legal to get their input on the transfer.”

Yes, you can send a request over to Solavei Legal where they will determine if you can transfer your income source to the wifey or if you are just going to lose out on it. Want to bet that Mr. Wuerch takes a tour to Cabo the day after this poor dude gets told no by the legal department? Or worse yet, Solavei gives him a technicality break and actually transfers the income source to his spouse allowing him to break the rules of his new company?

That’s it for this week! Hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoy reading the support.solavei.com forums!
