In the last few weeks, CrackBerry fans everywhere have been having an amazing time buying up the new BlackBerry Z10. The all touch screen Berry was the first phone delivered to market that runs the new, non-BIS using, BBOS10. This means that it is the first BlackBerry device that is able to be used on non-BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) networks like Solavei. While the original street price that GSM Nation was charging for the unlocked international device was a staggering $999.99, the latest pricing pins the new BlackBerry closer $500 without contract.
Now that prices have fallen to a more reasonable level, the question to consider is if the BlackBerry Z10 really a good choice for your Solavei service or not? My initial answer to this question is no. The problem with using 3rd party phones on an MVNO service is having to reconfigure the APN’s or Access Point Name, for the new network. For example, Solavei has certain settings that need to be set in the device before you can use their data stream and MMS messaging. These settings are as follows for those that found this page by searching for Solavei MMS settings:
APN: solavei
User name: – leave blank -
Password: – leave blank -
MMSC: http://solavei.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: – leave blank -
MMS port: – leave blank -
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,admin,mms,hipri (no spaces)
These settings will work on the majority of handsets that offer APN adjustments. Unfortunately for those that grabbed that BB Z10, there is only one of the 4 models available that allows for native APN editing. What is needed to make the Z10 operate on Solavei correctly is the ability for Solavei to push the APN settings directly to the SIM card from their end. This is no easy task to set up, nor will it be something that happens overnight. For now, as great as the Z10 is, I recommend a pass on the Z10 until either an APN editor is made available or Solavei gains access to the SIM push programming option that is required for use.
I have a solution to make all other blackberry work (not just Z10).
ReplyDeleteInternet, EDGE or 3G (depending on the phone).
Browser, facebook, youtube...
Outgoing MMS (Incoming MMS is still under work).
All running through solavei network (NOT RIM).
so no bbm or pin or any other Blackberry services.

DeleteActually, what GhoSTyaiRo is referring will not work with the Z10. He's talking about an old school way of patching the data through the server instead of using the BlackBerry system. It's a long, tedious process of installing Opera, making a few changes here or there and then using some duct tape and bailing wire to hold the entire thing together. Solavei's response was highlighted in the following post: http://4gfastdata.blogspot.com/2013/05/blackberry-z10-no-longer-officially.html
ReplyDeleteThe Z10 no longer required the BIS plan so his statement of not running through RIM is a no brainer for that particular device. It's this kind of stuff that really points out the short comings of the tech department of Soalvei.
