Le Eco – Le Pro 3 – $149.99 (Amazon)
The Le Eco brand is a bit new to the smartphone game, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to make a great quality device. A midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 powers the Le Pro 3, which keeps the cost a bit lower, but keeps the performance up. The 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage are more than enough to keep users going on a daily basis without experiencing any sluggish behavior. The industry standard 3000 mAh battery will get most users through the day without much issue as well. It’s equipped with a very competent 16MP rear camera and a good 8MP front shooter for selfies. The Le Pro 3 works with AT&T, T-Mobile, and their MVNO’s in the US. Overall, at the sub $150 price, the Le Pro 3 is quite a find if you are looking for an all around good device.
Nokia 6 – Amazon Prime Edition – $179.99 (Amazon)
Yes, that is right, it is arriving on July 10th. The Nokia 6 will be available in all it’s ‘midrange glory’ to anyone that wants to jump back in and experience the Nokia brand. Of course, we had to cheat a bit to get this one at a sub $200 price point as the phone actually lists at $229.99, but is available for $179.99 with the Amazon Prime Ad Lock Screen feature. It’s up to you whether or not having the little Amazon lock screen deal is too annoying or not, but that $50 discount puts it down where it needs to be to make this list. The Nokia 6 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, 3GB of RAM and features 32GB of internal storage. Where it sets itself apart from others in the sub $200 range is the camera performance. The 16MP main shooter on the Nokia 6 has actually rivaled the big boy’s flagships from 2016, which is saying something for a phone under $200. The Nokia 6 also features fingerprint security, a vanilla version of Android 7.1 and only the Amazon App package as any bloatware that is installed. If it weren’t for the lock screen, or if the phone was $30 cheaper without it, the Nokia 6 would easily top the list of best budget smartphones.
Asus ZenFone 3 Max – 2/16 – $149.99 (Amazon)
The ZenFone 3 Max is one of those almost great devices. In fact, it’s very similar to the ZenFone 3 Laser, which features an amazing camera and comes in at just $50 more. Still, for bang for the buck, the ZenFone 3 Max comes in well under the $200 mark at $149.99. The ZenFone 3 Max features a 5.2” display with 75% screen to body ratio. The 4100 mAh batter is one of the largest capacity batteries available in a sub $200 phone with the performance level of the ZenFone 3 Max. The ZenFone 3 Max also features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter for selfies and video chats. Overall, you’d be hard pressed to find a device that will out perform the ZenFone 3 Max for under $150.
We’re not sure how this device dropped $100 and made it under the $200 mark, but there it is. The Axon 7 Mini runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 series processor, has a whopping 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage on board. That feature set right there should push the price well over $200, and it was, until this latest drop. The 2705 mAh battery also features Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology for juicing up quickly when you need to be out for extended periods of time. The 5.2” AMOLED display delivers a rating of 423 pixels per inch, again, beating out any other budget phones around. Probably one of the most overlooked features of the Axon 7 Mini is the fact that it is a dual SIM device. This means one SIM for work and one SIM for home and each go into one device. No more carrying two phones. All of this comes in one mighty powerful package for under $200.
The Nextbit Robin began hitting the tech sectors early in 2016. It was the first “cloud phone” and was designed by a long time engineer and one of the former chief designers from HTC. It had everything going for it, and a pretty stellar launch price as well. When it finally hit shelves, or the cloud as the case may be, the Nextbit Robin met with some pretty solid reviews. the 1080p, 5.2” display is more than adequate for anyone that is in to media and gaming. The 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage are also a steal in this price range. This is where the Nextbit Robin deviates from some of the other lower cost counterparts – there’s no memory card slot. Instead, the Nextbit Robin will back up 100GB of data from the device to the Amazon Cloud for you whenever you are hooked to Wi-Fi. Think of it as an “external-external memory card” if you will. From there, the 13MP rear camera takes solid photos and the 5MP front shooter also works very well for video chats and selfies. The Nextbit Robin is probably best suited to those with an unlimited data plan on T-Mobile, but honestly, it’s a solid device for an extremely low cost.
