Right now, the two biggest issues that Solavei is facing, besides people that are baffled with poor coverage after they ‘lowered their bill from what they paid on Verizon or AT&T’ are the lack of LTE speeds and the fact that service costs are skyrocketing. Solavei is only months away now from their first re-negotiation with T-Mobile and chances are, they aren’t going to do super well at the table. First up, Simple Mobile. Simple Mobile is another T-Mobile MVNO with tiered plans, just like Solavei. The difference is that Simple Mobile is a true prepaid plan, so there is no 20% markup on your services with taxes and fees. Those are built-in to the cost of the refill. For example, the $40 plan refill, that includes unlimited talk, text and 1GB of LTE data (unlimited 2G) is only $39.58 when you purchase from getsmartphones.info. The $50 plan with 3GB of data is $49.48. The ultimate 5GB plan is $59.48. This will save you as much as $12 a month over Solavei prices and give you an extra GB of high speed data, plus that data is at LTE speeds instead of the HSPA+ that you get now. This is the same network you use now, but with LTE speeds.
Next up is Spot Mobile. Spot Mobile offers 90 day PayGo plans for as little as $5. Their first plan is a Talk & Text only plan for $24.99 a month. The refill on this plan will only run $29.80. Finally, you get to the unlimited talk, text and data plans, again with three offerings. The $39.99 plan includes 1GB of HSPA+ data, the $49.99 plan includes 2GB and the $59.99 plan includes 3GB before being throttled. Spot also includes a generous amount of international calling on all their plans, so if that is a feature that is important to you, Spot Mobile has you taken care of.
PTel Mobile is another strong option when you are tired of the Solavei runaround. The $35 plan includes unlimited talk, text and 2G data. The $40 plan adds 250MB of 4G HSPA+ data to your unlimited plan. The $50 plan adds a full 2GB of HSPA+ data to your plan. PTel isn’t the cheapest of the bunch, but they do offer some value line handsets and a very friendly website for those that need help.
Something to remember though, if you are leaving Solavei due to coverage issues, switching to one of these MVNO’s will not help you a bit. They all run off the T-Mobile network, which is the same for all of the carriers – unless you are on a T-Mobile Simple Choice Plan. If you use smaller amounts of data, you can opt in to using the native T-Mobile network’s Simple Starter Plan. This includes 500MB of data and unlimited voice/text. The Simple Starter Plan is $40 a month plus taxes and fees, which would bring the total to around $48 in top priced markets. This plan also gives you the ability to get your LOCKED T-Mobile device unlocked for free after just two months on the plan.
