One of the best tools for attracting users to your Solavei page was the subdomains that many people set up at www.sharesolavei.com. The simplistic template pages quickly gave users the rundown on Solavei and collected contact information for you. They were perfect, personal and free. What nobody knew, was that it wasn't Solavei that controlled these sites, or the data that went through them.
In the forums this week, I found a great thread about someone who printed up 200 business cards with their "myname.sharesolavei.com" website listing. To make it even worse, he purchased the extremely overpriced Solavei cards. Unknown to him, the cards he had printed were made obsolete by the company that owned sharesolavei.com when they closed up shop and forwarded the domain to "teamsolavei.com" instead. Now instead of seeing a beautiful personalized Solavei page, you get to see a quick page about the events that Solavei is hosting for the week.
This appears to just be another move to cut costs and get more cash from users who are more interested in saving than spending. I have to admit that I was stunned when I read the post above, about sharesolavei.com not belonging to Solavei. How many people just purchased my personal information from whatever company owned that domain? How many spam emails have I gotten because of it? It's terrible that more and more of this information keeps coming out. I could easily handle the fact that Solavei has poor service and no technical help, but contracting third parties to collect leads? That's pretty low, even for them.
